Dr. Daphne C. Watkins

Dr. Daphne C. Watkins

Founder and Director Dr. Watkins is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. For 15 years, she has studied gender disparities and mental health over the adult life course using mixed methods research approaches. In addition to her research and teaching obligations, Dr. Watkins is also the Director of the U-M Gender and Health Research Lab and the Director of the Certificate Program in Mixed Methods Research at the University of Michigan.

Manny Richardson

Manny Richardson

Project Coordinator/ Research Associate Manny Richardson is the Project Coordinator for the YBMen Project. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in criminal justice from the University of Central Missouri. Manny is passionate about education, wellness, and helping others achieve their goals.

Janelle Goodwill

Janelle Goodwill

Project Manager Janelle R. Goodwill is a PhD student in the joint program in social work and psychology at the University of Michigan. Her research interests includes exploring the mental health needs and well-being among Black men; with a specific focus on matters related to depression, suicidality, and spirituality. Prior to enrolling in the PhD program, Janelle earned her MSW from UM in 2015, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Michigan State University in 2013.

Natasha Johnson

Natasha Johnson

Research Assistant Natasha Johnson is a doctoral student in the joint Social Work & Psychology program at the University of Michigan. She graduated from Spelman College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Overall she is interested in examining protective factors associated with socially and economically disadvantaged populations in an agenda to promote improvement of mental health, academic success, civic engagement, and self-efficacy.

Ed-Dee Williams

Ed-Dee Williams

Research Assistant Ed-Dee G. Williams received his BA in Sociology from the University of Michigan in 2013 as well as his MSW in Interpersonal practice and Mental Health from the University of Michigan School of Social Work in 2014. During his time pursuing his MSW Ed-Dee worked with youth offenders that had experienced severe emotional and physical abuse using therapeutic interventions to help guide their paths during their transition out of residential juvenile facilities.

Branden May

Branden May

Research Assistant Branden works in Interlibrary Loan at the University of Michigan. He attended Morehouse College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2011. Branden plans on obtaining an MSW, focusing his research on the relationship between the world of sports and society, and how this partnership affects the modern day fan and athlete.

Nkemka Anyiwo

Nkemka Anyiwo

Research Assistant Nkemka Anyiwo is a PhD student in the Joint Program in Social Work and Developmental Psychology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She earned Bachelor of Art degrees in African American Studies and Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research examines how Black adolescents receive and interpret messages about their race and gender from media, families, and schools and the implications of these messages on their psychological well being.

Dr. Charles Graham, Jr.

Dr. Charles Graham, Jr.

Project Clinician Dr. Charles Graham Jr., is a Psychiatric Clinical Social Worker and Psychologist at the University of Michigan Hospital Department of Psychiatry, Addiction and Treatment Services Division and Assistant professor at Eastern Michigan University in the Department of Social Work. He received BA degrees in Social Welfare and Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and Masters and PhD from the University of Michigan in the Joint Program in Social Work and Psychology.

Reginald Hammond Jr.

Reginald Hammond Jr.

Research Assistant Reginald Hammond Jr. obtained his Bachelors of Science in Movement Science at the University of Michigan in 2014. Throughout his undergraduate experience, Reginald has provided student support in various leadership roles. He has developed a passion for dissipating the stigma associated with mental health. Reginald is currently a graduate student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program at Eastern Michigan University.

Leamon E. Wilson

Leamon E. Wilson

Research Assistant Leamon E. Wilson is an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan Majoring in Biopsychology, Cognition & Neuroscience with a Minor in Art & Design. He has a passion for finding new methods for presenting information to specific demographics along with interests in global health, mental health and overall wellness. He is interested in studying medicine from both the practical and global impact standpoints in communities of color.
